Puma has engineered “Active Gaming Footwear,” which might be an oxymoron given that no one is really physically active while playing games. Rather, they’re nice house slippers that cost an absolute mint.
These $105 gaming socks are marketed for gaming, but they’re pass muster for any sort of lounging. Puma says it was “designed for indoor and in-arena use,” and that “it delivers seamless comfort, support and grip so gamers can adapt to different active gaming modes and game their best.” Embarrassing! Also, I rarely game in arenas.
The copy gets worse. “Features and benefits” are described as:
All that being said, I like the way they look! They have rubber soles which categorically makes them more shoe than sock. They seem like they’d hold up to some light out-of-the-house use. To my untrained eye, they look about as durable as, like,a pair of Yeezys.
Send me these shoes and I will wear them. I will wear them to see if theymake me a better gamer. I will wear them to the gym to see if they give me stress fractures in my feet. I will wear them to E3 because technically a convention center is an arena.
One snag: Puma’s gaming sock is only currently available in the UK and Australia. $100 bullet dodged. For now.
