Heart Shaped Games unveiled the release date for its upcoming afrofuturist RPGWe Are The Caretakerswith a brand-new trailer. The turn-based tactical RPG is hittingSteamEarly Access on April 22, providing players the perfect opportunity to celebrate Earth Day.

We Are The Caretakersplaces players in control of a squad of arcane protectors known as The Caretakers after the barriers protecting their world mysteriously falls. The Caretakers are now tasked with defending their planet and its endangered inhabitants from poachers who aim to hunt the rare wildlife. Players are tasked with growing The Caretakers’ resistance while managing the group’s funds, animals, and alliances. Heart Shaped Games drew oninspiration from franchises likeXCOM,Ogre Battle, andDarkest Dungeonto create its eco-conscious tactical RPG.

The trailer gives players a glimpse at the title’s combat mechanics, as well as the unique cast of over 70 Caretakers available to recruit. The top-down view of the map features enemy strongholds and units for players to engage in strategic turn-based combat. Mission objectives listed include scouting territories, dismantling batteries, and defeating poacher bosses to expand The Caretakers operation.

Wildlife conservation lies at the heart ofWe Are The Caretakers, acting as the driving force behind the motives of The Caretakers. So much so that the developers at Heart Shaped Games are donating 10% of the game’s revenue to the Wildlife Conservation Network in order to help save rhinos.
