As expected, Nintendo dedicated the majority of its E3 2018 press conference onSmash Bros., now known officially asSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.SmashUltimateis essentially a culmination of all previous games in the franchise and packs in all sorts of content includingevery single character from the seriesbeing available on the mainline roster. While the footage was packed with information, Nintendo did confirm the return of a longstanding feature.
While Switch fans can certainly use existing control schemes like the Pro Controller or single joy-cons, Nintendo is also bringing back to popular Gamecube controller as an option for series veterans. While Nintendo plans on producing new controllers forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatewith the series logo emblazoned on it, players can also use older GameCube pads. Keep in mind that older gamepads still require the Wii U GameCube controller adaptor.
Along with the controller confirmation, Amiibo figures are also confirmed forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. The game supports all existing Amiibo and better yet, any data stored on them can also be transferred to the new game.
In addition to classic characters like Snake and Ice Climbers,Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis adding even more features like new assist trophies, echo fighter skins for some of the characters on the roster, and other added improvements. The game is also adding a couple of new characters like thepreviously revealed boy and girl Inklings, as well as one of the most requested characters throughout the history of the franchise: Ridley.
