This update retrofits Samurai Shodown for players beyond those who have the game on Steam.

Weapon-based fighting game Samurai Shodown, also known as Samurai Spirits in Japan, has received a major rollback netcode update! Rollback netcode is now supported on the PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S platforms, and Epic Games Store platforms.

Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update

According to developer SNK Corporation, this May 22 rollback netcode update retrofits the game for improved online matches. These matches are now smoother, allowing players to duke it out against others with minimal latency.

The Steam versionof Samurai Shodown already had the rollback netcode update back in 2023. Additionally, it should be noted that the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of the game are not part of the May 22 update.

Professional fighting game legendJustin Wongexpressed his excitement about the Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update on social media. Similar sentiments were shared among other players in the fighting gaming community (FGC) as well, includingBrad “Scrub Saibot” Hanasyk, who took home the gold in 10 Samurai Shodown competitions over the years.

What is Samurai Shodown?

This game is part of a long-running series that’s set in feudal-era Japan. The first game came out in 1993. Now, the Samurai Shodown series has 12 mainline titles and a bunch of spin-off games. The series boasts its own animation and manga adaptations as well.

The latest version of Samurai Shodown features nostalgic mechanics and aesthetics. However, it also has a new ghost feature. This system learns from player tactics and creates ghost characters that can be shared with others and fought against.
