In addition to bringing the character back, newIT: Welcome to Derrymerchandise reveals Pennywise will be getting a new form. The upcoming series, co-developed by Andy and Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, serves as aprequel to Stephen King’s iconic horror novel, exploring the titular town’s history in 1962 when a new family arrives in Derry around the time a young boy disappears.
Part of a three-season plan with subsequent installments set to take place in 1935 and 1908, there were questions whether the show would actually featureBill Skarsgård’s Pennywise, particularly as the star remained cagey about his potential return. It would later be announced that Skarsgård would be back, joining a cast that includes the likes of Jovan Adepo, James Remar and Taylour Paige.

With a couple of months still remaining until the show’s premiere,Funko POP News!has revealed new merchandise in the works for the upcomingIT: Welcome to Derry. The new figures are all for Bill Skarsgård’s menacing titular clown, with two showing him in his classic design and with his old-school wagon, while another features the Bob Gray human figure seen inChapter Twoand the fourth is a terrifying new design entitled Skeleton Man, which features sharp claws, a missing nose and mouth of razor-sharp teeth.

What Pennywise’s New Form Means For It: Welcome To Derry
Across Muschietti’s two-film adaptation of King’s iconic 1986 novel, Skarsgård’s Pennywise certainly showed off a range of forms in an effort toterrorize The Losers' Club. Whether it was the painting of a crooked-faced woman coming to life, manifestations of seemingly normal characters, or a leper, the malevolent spirit knew just how to target each character’s fears.
However, the new form shown in theWelcome to Derrymerchandise looks as though it may be a transformation from his Bob Gray appearance into something more monstrous. Much like when Beverly met the apparently sweet-hearted Mrs. Kirsh inIT: Chapter Twobefore she transformed into a wiry demon, the facial structure appears akin to that of the carny.

That being said, if just to compare the Bob and Skeleton Man figures, there is also the chance thatPennywise’s new designcomes from him disguising himself as another character. Between the gray hair strands and the apparent wearing of overalls instead of a clown costume, it seems entirely possible Pennywise will again don the faces of other human characters.
Our Take On Pennywise’s New Form In IT: Welcome To Derry
While the design of a stylized figurine in the way of Funko POPs may not carry the same weight as seeing it in the show, I can’t deny that Pennywise’s new form seen intheIT: Welcome to Derrymerchandiseis already quite unsettling. The fact it looks the most like a genuine creature instead of a playful demon has me curious to see how it’s depicted in the show.
Additionally, the way it’s posed in the figurine, I can’t help but wonder ifIT: Welcome to Derrywill feature Pennywise’s infamous spider design. Given there’s a three-season plan for the show, it seems unlikely they’ll go for one the size seen inChapter Two’s ending, but could still allude to this powerful form some after the show’s October premiere.
