Cruel Angel’s Streaming Service
The work of ex-Ghibli auteur Hideaki Anno,Evangelionburst onto the scene in the mid-’90s and played a big role in changing popular perceptions of anime as a medium, especially overseas. It wouldn’t be too huge a stretch to say that it influenced virtually every work that came after for at least a decade, and its echoes are still seen today, though more oftenin weird marketing tie-upsmore than anything else.
This is also significant, as it’s the first time the original series has debuted on an (international) streaming service. For whatever reason, anime fans have had a hard time getting their eyes on the show legally and without having to buy expensive, out-of-print DVD collections or settling for the initially-similar-but-suddenly-extremely-differentRebuildmovies.

Unfortunately for the impatient,Evangelionisn’t on Netflixright now. It’ll be aired sometime next year. No word yet on if it’ll be out in other territories, but at the least Americans can expect to watch Shinji’s saga in Spring 2019. In the meantime, check out some fine tweets below.
