Nintendo has announced the Rewind tool for theNES classic gamesavailable with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The library ofNESgames, which is only available to Nintendo Switch Online members, offers games such as Super Mario Bros.,Metroid, andDonkey Kong.

On Twitter, the officialNintendo of Americaaccount shared a video showing the new Rewind tool in motion. In one scene fromSuper Mario Bros., the player is taken out by a pesky Piranha Plant but they are able to use Rewind to select a frame from a few seconds ago to have another crack at it. The second time, the player dodges the Piranha Plant and moves through the level safely.

In another scene from the trailer shows Link, the protagonist ofThe Legend of Zelda, getting blasted by a projectile from an enemy. Using Rewind again, the player moves out of the way of the attack and defeats the enemies first. There’s also a scene fromDr. Mariowhere the player fails to match the symbols correctly and ends up crashing out of the level. However, they can use Rewind to go back a few frames and try to put them in the right position. It’s a tool that a fair few players of theDr. Mario Worldmobile gameprobably wish that they had too.

Some players like the idea of not having to worry much about failing a level, as Rewind means that they can also just jump back. A few other Nintendo Switch Online members, though, say that this is just a form of cheating. One Twitter user, EnragedFlame 31, called this one of the “worse” things that Nintendo could have added, saying that it discourages challenging gameplay. Some said that it means they can no longer trust high scores of these games posted to social media. One other joking Twitter response brought up the “you cheated yourself” meme that was made popular because ofSekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
