Master Chief will make his triumphant return to Fortnite on Dec. 23!
Master Chief of the beloved Halo franchise returned to the Fortnite Item Shop on Dec. 23 for the first time in over 900 days. Following the skin’s launch, Master Chief cycled through the Item Shop a handful of times before disappearing after its most recent rotation. If you didn’t grab it on Jul 21, 2025, you’ve been waiting nearly three years for it to return. The wait is finally over, and here is everything you need to know.

Having debuted in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5, nothing beats the introductory trailer for Master Chief’s appearance. The beloved Spartan John-117 has become a staple in gaming culture, but Fortnite players who missed out on purchasing the Master Chief skin could only wait and hope for it to return.
Sure enough, Fortnite leakers have confirmed that the Master Chief set would return on Dec. 23 when the Item Shop resets at 7 p.m. ET. The entire bundle, including the Outfit, Back Bling, Pickaxe, and Glider, is available until Jun 18, 2025.

One standout inclusion in the Fortnite xHalocollab was the Matte Black version of Master Chief. However, Epic Games has confirmed via @FortniteStatus that the Matte Black version of Master Chief is no longer available. A social media post regarding the matter stated that the style was “limited to players who purchased the outfit and played on an Xbox Series X|S prior to Dec. 2024.”
