Alien: Earthstar Samuel Blenkin explains how the new corporation in the TV series is different from the pre-established Weyland-Yutani. TheupcomingAlien: Earthwill see space vesselMaginotcrashing into the planet, bringing with it Xenomorphs and other threatening extraterrestrial species. Centered throughout will be the Prodigy Corporation, a company focused on synthetic-human hybrid tech while investigating the crash.
During an interview withScreenRant’s Liam Crowley forAlien: Earth,Samuel Blenkin, who plays Prodigy Corporation CEO Boy Kavalier, unpacked how the new company is different from Weyland-Yutani. He explained how Boy’s vision is fast-moving, embracing hybrid technology that could allow people to move beyond their physicality, asking questions about what truly makes something human. See what he said below:

Samuel Blenkin: I mean even in our universe Weyland-Yutani is like a hulking behemoth of a company, that’s how we imagine it. They have so much power and so much control, but they’re almost swollen. They’re too big, they’ve got too much influence, and we are a 10-year-old company. I feel like I’m actually at a meeting, a shareholder meeting. ‘Listen, we’re a 10-year-old company. We move fast!’ Boy Kavalier sees himself as the cutting edge and obviously in our series, the technology that he’s created, these hybrids, he sees them as the ultimate thing that will change humanity’s course forever and will lead ultimately to us transcending our human bodies and moving into synthetic bodies forever. That’s ultimately the aim. And I guess the question for my character and one of the questions at the heart of the series is, what is human enough? Because the answer to that question depends on whether what he’s made is something that he can sell to everybody and that everybody will buy, or whether it’s something that nobody is ever going to want to touch. It’s that question of what is human enough? What counts as being human?
What Blenkin’s Statement Means For The Prodigy Corporation In Alien: Earth
As revealed in trailers for the series, the Prodigy Corporation specializes in creating synthetic bodies for humans. The protagonist on the cast ofAlien: Earth, Wendy, is one of these hybrids, the first ever produced by the company. This tech is entirely new to the franchise, and something that not even Weyland-Yutani has been able to bring to the table.
Based on availablereviews forAlien: Earthso far,it seems like Prodigy will be adding some nuance to the franchise, which could include some new elements that have yet to be showcased in the trailers. Blenkin’s statement emphasizes how the company is trying to be distinct from its bigger competition, and how it ties into the show’s core themes.

Given that the company is not mentioned anywhere else ontheAlientimeline, it’s unclear what its fate will be when the show comes to a close. However, their technology is something incredibly groundbreaking, especially for something that takes place before the first movie. It raises questions about humanity while also offering a way for the preservation of people.
Our Take On Prodigy’s Role In Alien: Earth
While there’s still plenty of mystery surrounding the Prodigy Corporation and what they’ll be up to inAlien: Earth, their technological progress seems like it’ll be a core focus alongside the crashedMaginot. The show sounds like it’ll be weaving together both Boy’s attempt at making his company larger and the threats that face humanity from the downed vessel.
With plenty of ways to explore humanity in varying degrees, the technology Prodigy Corporation specializes in seems like a key factor into howAlien: Earthwill play out. The show’s exploration of these notions will be central to its progression, adding new lenses through which to view the franchise thanks to these new technological ideas.

Alien: Earthpremieres with two episodes Tuesday, August 12 at 8 p.m. ET on Hulu.
