Ghost of Tsushimahas released to almost unanimous acclaim withreviews focusing onTsushima’s gorgeous visuals, rich open world, and satisfying combat. As players are starting to dig into the game, knowing what items need to be found to craft becomes important.

While the game has stumbled a bit with distribution, ascustomers are being refunded for Collector’s Editionsthey thought they were receiving, the game itself isn’t disappointing. Jin’s battle against the invading Mongol army is an action-packed affair, but crafting is an integral part of the experience, and any samurai worth their salt should know how to use materials to upgrade their gear.

Ghost of Tsushima’s resources for crafting are broken down into 4 categories:Wood,Metal,Cloth, andGoods. Knowing which items in these categories will work best for a player’s equipment set is key to success.

Wood

In the Wood category, items one finds can be used to improve the strength of their bow. Three types of wood exist out there on Tsushima: Bamboo, Yew, and Wax Wood. Bamboo and Yew can be found in forested areas, but Wax Wood can only be found at Shinto Shrines, by completing the challenges found there.

Metal

If players are looking to improve the attack power and effectiveness of their katana and tanto, search for Metal resources. Again, three different types to look for, and for the Metal category these three are Iron, Steel, and Gold. These materials can only be found in Mongol-occupied territory. From the fishing villages, to farms, to Mongol camps, Metal must be pilfered out of enemy strongholds.

Cloth

If players are looking for Cloth to upgrade their outfits, the three Cloth variants, Linen, Leather, and Silk, can be found in populated areas. TheTsushima nativesliving in the villages, farms, and camps are willing to part with Cloth materials, often rewarding Jin with them upon completing the Tales of Tsushima side missions.

Goods

Finally, the Goods category coves a wide range of materials, used for different purposes. Supplies function as the game’s main form of currency used to purchase weapons and upgrades from vendors. Flowers are used to dye clothing, and are found across the island of Tsushima. The best place to find Flowers is the marshland of the Toyotoma region. Finally, Predator Hides can be collected from hostile creatures like bears, boars, and Mongol guard dogs. These hides can be traded to Trappers for increases to ammo capacity for various weapons.

Ghost of Tsushimais set in a world that is ripe for exploration, with crafting resources scattered across the living, breathing island of Tsushima. In addition to the Wood, Metal, Cloth, and Goods found out in the world,Ghost of Tsushimais also hiding Easter eggsfor previous Sucker Punch games, likeSly Cooper.

While there has been somecritique ofTsushima’s historical accuracy, and that critique is valid, the core gaming experience is a rush, and solid (but not overwhelming) crafting systems offer just the right amount of fetch questing without becoming tedious.
