Don’t worry, Mega City is still here
It is that wonderful time of year again where Epic Games graces us with a brand new season ofFortnite. This time around,FortniteWilds comes with its own host of map changes to the game, which are mostly welcome. The island is quite different this time around, mostly due to the massive crater in the center of it.
AllFortniteWilds Season 3 map changes
Almost everyFortniteseason comes with new named locations for players to check out, andSeason 3does just that. There are three new points of interest: Rumble Ruins, Cheeky Compound, and Shady Stilts.
Oddly enough, all three of them are based around the central crater that brought along a massive jungle to explore. Unfortunately, this also spells the end of a popular named location.
Rumble Ruins
Rumble Ruins is the new central point of interest on theFortniteWilds island. Sadly, it replaces Anvil Square, which was one of my favorite points of interest besides the returning Mega City. In its place, Rumble Ruins offers jungle and dense foliage to explore.
The central point of this area are the titular ruins that are in the middle of the location. This is a massive temple-like structure with other smaller points of interest around it. There isn’t too much to Rumble Ruins, which is unfortunate, but expect it to be quite popular due to its jungle vault and centralized location.
Cheeky Compound
Cheeky Compound is to the north of Rumble Ruins, within the same jungle crater. This small location is dense, with several buildings making up the latest research lab on the island. There are several locations where you’ll find chests and fight enemies.
Given its somewhat central location, I expect this to be one of the better landing spots this season with the possible loot here and its close proximity to Rumble Ruins.
Shady Stilts
Shady Stilts may become one of the most overlooked new points of interest on the island, due to its remote location. It is further north in the jungle and east of Breakwater Bay. This is a small waterside village with wooden houses and huts all around.
With the numerous homes, there is likely to be a ton of loot here. However, I don’t expect too many players to visit here past the first couple of weeks of the season.
Mud and vines, explained
There are two new environmental changes that arrive in the jungle crater alongside the new locales. Mud is a new feature in Fortnite that is more useful than it sounds, as you won’t suffer fall damage if you land in it.
In addition, covering your avatar in mud will give them a camouflage effect and a temporary speed boost. As for the vines, they are a jungle version of the rails you can grind on in Mega City.
