Police in the city of Irvine , California , released a new promotional television Tuesday to show off their new Tesla Cybertruck . The video is every bit as cringey as you ’d expect , but there are a few detail we were n’t really expecting . For starters , the fresh Cybertruck is only drop dead to be used for the D.A.R.E. anti - drug program rather than as a patrol car . And , perhaps more queerly , the promo video uses music from theTerminatormovie dealership .
“ The Irvine Police Department ( IPD ) is worked up to unveil what we conceive is the first police force Tesla Cybertruck in the country , ” the section said inposts to XandFacebook .
“ The motortruck will back our Drug Abuse Resistance Education ( DARE ) platform and community of interests outreach efforts . While the in full equipped vehicle wo n’t be used as a patrol car , it can respond to emergencies and help the community when take , ” the statement continued .

Irvine Police first announced it was getting a Cybertruckin July , not long after reports trickled out theprevious monththat a fellowship call Unplugged Performance in Hawthorne , California , was create a bragging pushing to equip cops in Southern California with Tesla tech . Hawthorne is a small municipality just to the south of Los Angeles where SpaceX and Tesla have large facilities .
“ For over three tenner , our daring officers have driven attention - snaffle and one - of - a - kind vehicle that never fail to turn head and excite students . IPD believe in the continual breeding of student and is one of only two DARE program in the entire state , ” the section said .
D.A.R.E. was plant in 1983 , and even though it ’s not as vernacular in school these days , some kids are still getting the same ineffective anti - drug messaging , despite the fact that studies show itdoesn’t body of work .

“ IPD stormily seeks unique and innovative ways to connect with our community of interests and the young person of Irvine ” the section enunciate . “ Officers on hogback , working with a support K9 , or driving a unique fomite such as the Cybertruck start confirming conversations and promote community interaction . We are thrilled to introduce this fomite to our community and will be hosting pop out - up upshot in the come week so you may take photos and meet our officers . ”
Again , the new promotional video is all set to euphony fromTerminator , which gives the video a very eery feeling . They know the unsound bozo in the second picture show is dressed up as a copper , right ? And that the movies are actually about how copper are tough ? Its director said as much in the 2010 bookThe Futurist : The Life and Films of James Cameronby Rebecca Keegan .
“ TheTerminatorfilms are not really about the human race getting toss off off by next machines , ” Cameron is quotedas saying . “ They ’re about us losing touch with our own humanity and becoming machines , which tolerate us to kill and animalise each other . ”

“ Cops think of all non - cops as less than they are , stupefied , weak , and evil , ” Cameron continued . “ They dehumanise the people they are trust to protect and desensitize themselves so as to do that job . ”
Questions emailed to Irvine Police about the section ’s acquisition of the Cybertruck did n’t forthwith receive a response . Gizmodo will update this post if we get word back .
Update , 9:25 p.m. ET : We heard back from Irvine PD and they said , “ The video was used on our socials and euphony credit was given to the creative person , ” which does n’t sound like they licensed the medicine from the film .
