concord to Nieman Lab , several publishers comment the variety around January 15th when a “ newfangled option gave [ them ] the selection to “ not enable digital right management ” in Amazon ’s Digital Text Platform . There was no formal announcement , but this is the explanation from Amazon itself :

You may choose , on a per deed base , to have us utilize DRM ( Digital Rights Management ) technology which is intended to stamp down unauthorized access to or copying of digital content files for titles . Once your title is published , this setting can not be changed .
It ’s dubitable that major publishing house would be quick to take vantage of this change , but we ’ll see . congratulations to Amazon for finally lease the people position out the depicted object decide how to gift it to ebook shoppers . [ Nieman Lab ]
Update : Amazon wrote in to say that they ’ve “ always given publishers the choice [ to skip DRM ] , [ they ] just added Modern functionality to make it easier . ” I guess it must ’ve been somewhat difficult to choose to skip DRM in the past tense since many publishers did n’t seem to be mindful of the selection , but let ’s not harp on it and just be happy that it ’s well-heeled now and we all know about it .
